David Blosse

Original songwriter and guitarist-instrumentalist, and a stalwart of the country, blues and roots music scene.

*****************************

David plays acoustic/electric guitar and mandolin and has steadily expanded his musical horizons to embrace world rhythms and ambience whilst retaining his musical roots. He has long been involved in music performance - as a solo artist in the folk clubs of the seventies, through the early eighties with the much-travelled gutsy country rock band Pekoe Orange, followed by a successful period leading the highly versatile and hugely popular Hurlimann Brothers world jazz and blues band. Formed in the mid-eighties, the Hurlimanns were an eclectic and highly versatile group of musicians that lasts to this day. Their fascinating mix of brass, African percussion, guitar, accordion, dums and ‘anything else that can be blown, bashed or plucked’ explores the limitless boundaries of ‘world music’ with strong country, jazz and blues overtones.

From African to Celtic, blues to jazz, the Hurlimann Band have their own unique way of performing.

More recently, David has teamed up with some of the finest musicians to form ‘the Soul Cowboys’, a tight-knit, exciting country-rock band with a superb line up and a rare blend of talent.

Gradually though, David has felt the need to return to solo gigs and his acoustic guitar and this now forms a part of his busy intinerary.

What it’s all about

What hits you most is the distinctive voice, the intimacy and humour of the lyrics, the balance of the vocals and the powerfully eclectic mix of music styles. The intervention of improvised jamming sequences is both exhilarating and exciting, adding a touch of spice to the rich, brilliant brew. David’s heart-warming, energetic performances have an edge and quality that leave you yearning for more. It is a compelling and original blend, mixed artfully with his relaxed playing and the way he interacts with his audience.
The evocative quality of David’s music is enhanced by his lyrics. His gritty singing combined with a very individual laid-back guitar style makes you want to listen. It is easy to sit back and absorb the haunting, humorous and compelling performance, whether you are watching a big stage gig, or relaxing with a beer in a smoky late night bar.
David has an ability to catch audience attention, and keep them entertained with songs delivered in an honest soulful way - weaving magic with the strength of music that are you are moved by, and move with.

Going solo

David has recently returned to his roots and is now entertaining audiences with his gritty solo performances. His bluesy voice is well suited to the powerful lyrics and his repertoire contains upbeat songs, beautiful moody ballads and a wry Scottish humour, which combine in captivating his audiiences. His style is eclectic but very much his own.
Throughout this time, David has only ever, with one or two notable exceptions, used his own highly original and diverse material. and he has never been defensive when it comes to developing and trying out new and innovative styles. With his distinctive dry, humorous, engaging stage presence and his natural charisma, he continues to win himself new fans wherever he goes.

Back in the studio, he has recorded two very well received solo albums That’s the Key and Fall from GraceThe first album was influenced by his love of Scotland - the music, the culture and in particular the Scottish rugby team whose pride and passion on the field has provided him with a source of great inspiration over the years.  Fall from Grace epitomises what David does best with deeply honest lyrics  and high quality songs.
Recently, David has spent some time on tour with visiting American artists, and he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  What of the future? He recently finished recording a stunning live album, Pilot Episode, and is planning more solo appearances, more support roles with visiting bands and more touring.
